Idiom Page Help
Use the URL http://english-idioms.net/wm to bring up the main page.
You can search for idioms in 4 ways:
- Click on a letter in Look for idioms by section on the Idiom Home page. This will give you the first 10 idioms beginning with that letter. You can use the Next button to browse through idioms starting with one letter - though this may take a while for letters like a or g.
- Click on a letter in Look for idioms containing a specific word on the Idiom Home page. This will give you an alphabetical list of all words appearing in an idiom, and links to the idioms where they appear. Note: This view is static; it might not reflect the latest changes to the idioms.
- Click on a letter in Look for idioms explained by a specific word on the Idiom Home page. This will give you an alphabetical list of all words appearing in the definition of an idiom, and links to the idioms where they appear. Note: This view is static; it might not reflect the latest changes to the idioms.
- Write the start of the idiom you look for into the URL. E.g. http://english-idioms.net/wm/idiom.cgi?idiom=gee gives you a page starting with idioms which begin with gee.
This even works with words which do not exist, e.g. http://english-idioms.net/wm/idiom.cgi?idiom=reee
gives you a page starting with "reefer". Mind-boggling, isn't it?
You can decide how many idioms you want to see on a page, e.g. http://english-idioms.net/wm/idiom.cgi?idiom=ro&nr=20
comes up with our beloved "road apple" and 19 other idioms. The number of idioms per page is remembered when you press "Previous" or "Next".
The number is limited to 50 presently.
